Posted July 15, 2003 Decals for Vehicles APTA has purchased decals for the benefit of Alligator Point property owners. Decals when placed on vehicles will assist law enforcement during their patrol. The Alligator Point / St. Teresa Volunteer Fire Department will include the decals in a future mailing.
Neighborhood Watch Program for Alligator Point Status of Pilot Program for Franklin County DJ Thomas, an APTA member who is heading up the effort to create a Neighborhood Watch Program for Alligator Point, states that final meetings are being conducted with block captains prior to launching this program. Since this is a pilot program for Franklin County and this first program will be the model, much effort is being made to ensure a successful implementation.
Hazardous Materials Found on Alligator Point Shoreline Military activities recently took place off shore from Alligator Point and various refuse from these activities has washed ashore. We have heard that people have found still active flares. Please immediately contact local police if you come upon any suspect object. Clams Reported Ready for Market As printed in the July 11 issue of the Franklin Chronicle, Mr. Bill Mahan, Franklin County Extension Director reported to the Franklin County Board of Commissioners on July 1 that "a number of the farmers have clams that are ready for market. This is much sooner (12-13 months) than anyone thought the clams would be ready." A "boater education" sign has been placed on the main corner posts marking the Alligator Harbor High Density Lease Area. Please practice safe and proper boat handling around the clam aquaculture area.
Alligator Point Water Resources District Asks County Commissioners for Assistance The Alligator Point Water Resources District recently sent a letter to Franklin County Planner Alan Pierce asking the county to adopt certain ordinances to help alleviate growing water shortages at Alligator Point. The closing paragraph of the letter states: "The Alligator Point Water Resources District is currently meeting its obligations to provide potable water for its customers; we are asking Franklin County to help us provide for the long term. Please consider our limitations when reviewing growth management issues in and around Alligator Point." |
