Posted March 20, 2007 Decision on Coastal Highway Postponed Credited to the Tallahassee Democrat, published March 15, 2007 "The decision on a master plan for road improvements to U.S. Highway 98 along the Panhandle, including Franklin and Wakulla counties, has been postponed until April 5. The Northwest Florida Transportation Corridor Authority tabled approval of the eight-county plan at its meeting in Pensacola today to allow more time for public comment. The plan calls for a new interior highway parallel to the existing coast-hugging U.S. 98 from Eastpoint to U.S. 319, where it would join an expanded four-lane road heading north to Tallahassee. Those who support the new highway cite public safety and the need for better hurricane evacuations, but others say it will pave the way for explosive growth that will harm the area's environmental and cultural assets. The proposed master plan, and the location of the April meeting in Panama City, may be viewed at the authority's Web site, www.nwftca.com."Note from APTAWEB: The following notice is on the Northwest Florida Transportation Corridor Authority web site.
