FDEP Regional Coastal Monitoring Database

Range Monuments

The Florida Department of Environmental Protection Regional Coastal Monitoring Database allows users to get GIS data via interactive maps.

"The regional data collection and processing plan includes establishment of 4 coastal quadrants or regions within the State where physical data is to be collected annually on a cyclical. Data available are high-resolution, true color aerial photos for coastal areas of North Atlantic, South Atlantic, Southwest Gulf, and Northwest Gulf. This internet mapping site is provided to facilitate access to and viewing of this data. Additionally, following hurricanes, post-storm videography and/or photography are collected and are made available via this site as well."

To get to the database go to the FDEP web site at: http://www.dep.state.fl.us/

At the Search window enter: Regional Coastal Monitoring and click GO. Next, click on the first search result.

At the database screen, to get information about Alligator Point select Coastal Counties and then select Franklin or if you want to make a selection based on range monuments enter a range monument number; then Open the Map.

Range Monuments numbers begin in the far western part of Franklin County so the quickest way to get to those in the Alligator Point Beach Renourishment Project area is to enter a Range Number between R-209 and R-227.

Use the tool bar at the top of the map to zoom-in or zoom-out, pan etc. the check boxes on the left of the screen allow you to see selected features.

Here’s an example of the map you will retrieve for Range Monument R-209.

FDEP also has available Range Monument Tabulation

"Each zipped file contains range monument locations, elevation and azimuth information used to reference beach profile surveys. The locations are used as reference marks and do not necessarily correspond to physical monuments found in the field. All location information is provided in NAD83/90 horizontal datum and NAVD1988 vertical datum."

APTAWEB has copied the FDEP’s Excel spreadsheet and named it Franklin County Range Monument Comparison.
