Alligator Point Beach Renourishment Project

New "Re-Revised" Assessment Rates

Tuesday evening Franklin County Director of Administrative Services, Alan Pierce appraised the County Commissioners on the Alligator Point Beach Renourishment Project in his "Report to the Board of County Commissioners" and provided a "re-revised" set of rates, different from the rates recently posted on APTA’s web site.

The new rates are a result of placing sand in the area between R216 and R219 (see July 13th posting) and adding those property owners back into the rate equations.

Mr. Pierce states in his report:

"So our current estimates are somewhat higher than where we started, but substantially lower than where they were Saturday. We will continue to review the situation, and clearly if DEP would approve of the cost sharing of the sand for the Gap, then the numbers will go back close to where they were originally."

Ken Osborne on behalf of APTA members conveyed to the Commissioners that the rates including the re-revised rates are higher than those rates originally supported by affected taxpayers and asked for rate reductions. He also asked the Commissioners to support the TIF. The Commissioners agreed to ask Government Services Group for information on the TIF. APTA, led by Ken Osborne and Dick Waters are doing everything in their powers to get the assessments lowered.

The County Commission set a date for a Beach Renourishment Public Workshop to be held Friday August 24, 2007 at 5:00 PM at the Mission by the Sea Church to discuss modification of estimates adopted at Public Hearing August 7th. Commissioner Bevin Putnal was so impressed with the turnout and the manner that participants conducted themselves at the last workshop that he enthusiastically encouraged Commissioners to agree to conduct the workshop at Alligator Point once again.

A Public Hearing for MSBU Ordinance adoption is scheduled for 9:15am, August 7th, Franklin County Courthouse Annex, at Franklin County Commission meeting.

Final Cost figure adoption will be September 4 or September 11, to be determined at the workshop.

We are at a critical phase in the Beach Renourishment effort. Please visit this web site often to keep posted.
