A fire burns nearly 100 acres in Ball Point Sate Park. Firefighters say the fire began Tuesday after lighting struck in the area. Authorities say the humidity caused the flames to grow as high as twenty feet.

An eyewitness says she saw the blaze glowing in the wooded area Wednesday night.

"I was getting ready to go to bed about 10:15 [PM] and we looked across the bay and there were flames. It was red and burning. And during the middle of the night when I gout up there was not any red but there was a lot of smoke. And this morning there was a lot of smoke," says Linda Harris, Franklin County Resident.

Firefighters say the fire is completely under control. No injuries were reported. Authorities say the burn programs practiced in the area prevented the fire from spreading.

"If we hadn't had those efforts earlier this year, this fire would have been much different, and it would have probably been way more than we could handle. It might have turned into something like you get over near Lake City this year," adds Kevin Patton, Park Manager, Ball Point State Park.
